Teen Passenger Injured As Stolen Car Collides With Tree in SW Columbus During Police Chase

COLUMBUS, OH – Three teenagers were placed under custody following a police pursuit and injury crash early Wednesday in southwest Columbus, according to ABC 6 On Your Side.

The wreck unfolded near a residence in the 3200 block of Briggs Road, near Binns Elementary School in the city’s Southwest Hilltop neighborhood. It was first reported at around 3:45 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates that local police officers were trying to pull over a silver Kia Optima in the area of Bonnie Court and Demorest Road. Officials said the driver failed to stop and the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed until it later crashed into a tree.

While two 17-year-old male occupants are believed to have gotten out of the vehicle and fled the scene, they were later apprehended. A 16-year-old male passenger who was reportedly left at the site following the crash had to be taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where their condition was listed as stable.

No information regarding potential charges has been disclosed, but an investigation remains underway.
