COLUMBUS, OH – A 27-year-old passenger died early Sunday due to a head-on collision northwest of Columbus that left three other people hurt, reports ABC 6.
While the exact location of the scene was not immediately disclosed, the Ohio State Highway Patrol indicated that it occurred on a stretch of State Route 95 at about 3:52 a.m.
Preliminary details show a 29-year-old man was operating a 2013 Nissan Altima westbound when he veered to the left of his lane, causing the car to enter the eastbound side. Moments later, the Altima collided head-on with an oncoming 2024 Honda Civic driven by a 19-year-old.
A 27-year-old passenger in the Altima succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Investigators said he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck.
The driver of the Altima and his other passenger, 31, were transported to Marion General Hospital and Ohio Health Mansfield for injuries considered minor and serious, respectively.
The driver of the Honda was taken to Morrow General Hospital for minor injuries.
An investigation remains ongoing, but the OSHP said alcohol appears to have been a factor in the collision.
