Pedestrian killed, others hurt during pair of crashes in Marion

MARION COUNTY, OH – A 72-year-old woman was fatally struck by two vehicles late Monday morning, July 8, in Marion during a pair of crashes that left a child injured, reports Cleveland 19 News.

The accident happened on East Center Street near Chicago Avenue, on the city’s east side. Marion Post Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers were called to the area at about 11:30 a.m.

According to an early investigation, an 85-year-old woman was behind the wheel of a Ford Escape when she pulled out from a private driveway onto Center Street. During the maneuver, the vehicle hit the victim, a pedestrian, who was traveling with two children, ages 7 and 2, at the time.

Shortly after, a Kenworth T480 truck heading eastbound on Center Street collided with both the female pedestrian and the Escape.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased following the incident, confirmed officials.

While the 2-year-old child suffered minor injuries, the 7-year-old was not reported hurt. It was unclear whether the toddler had to be taken to a hospital.

Officials did confirm that EMS crews took the driver of the Escape and her passenger to Marion General Hospital for minor injuries.

No pending charges or citations have been reported at this time. An investigation remains underway.
