MUSKINGUM COUNTY, OH – An Ohio Department of Transportation employee lost his life last Friday, June 7, as a result of a collision on State Route 60 south of Zanesville, the agency confirmed on Tuesday, June 11.
The circumstances and the exact location of the fatal incident were not disclosed in the release, but ODOT said the victim, a project inspector with the agency’s construction office, was in an active work zone at the time.
While officials have not said whether anyone is expected to be charged or cited, the event was described as a “crash,” suggesting that a motorist may have been involved.
Ohio State Highway Patrol has launched an investigation. Separate investigations by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Ohio Bureau of Worker’s Compensation’s Public Employment Risk Reduction Program are also ongoing.
