COLUMBUS, OH – One person died Thursday evening after being struck by a vehicle while operating a motorcycle in northeast Columbus, according to NBC4i.
The accident happened at the corner of Chittenden Avenue and Cleveland Avenue, in the city’s South Linden neighborhood. Columbus Police responded to the scene shortly after 5:30 p.m.
While the events leading up to the wreck have not been made public, but NBC4i’s report indicates the motorcyclist was struck by a Honda Fit, whose driver then fled the scene.
Officials said the rider was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition. They were pronounced deceased about an hour later, shortly before 6:30 p.m.
An investigation remains open and ongoing.
