EMS Dispatched to Crash on Southbound I-71 in North Columbus

COLUMBUS, OH – Motorists were warned of delays Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 71 in north Columbus, according to Johnny Hill, local traffic news announcer with WTVN 610.

The accident happened on the southbound side of I-71 before I-270, near Sharon Woods. It was first reported at about 3:22 p.m.

At the time of the initial report, EMS crews were en route to the scene, and motorists were asked to stay right to get by, which caused delays from Polaris Parkway.

Shortly after, officials announced that a section of southbound I-71 was closed to traffic. Motorists were advised to take Polaris Parkway to Cleveland Avenue, or westbound Ohio 750 to southbound US-23 and then to I-270.

Even as southbound I-71 reopened south of the Polaris Parkway exit shortly after 3:50 p.m., the right lane remained closed as Columbus Police processed the area.

At this time, no details regarding the cause of the wreck of those involved have been released.
