Driver dies following two-vehicle wreck at Franklin Township intersection

RICHLAND COUNTY, OH – A 73-year-old Mansfield resident lost his life Tuesday afternoon, July 16, as a result of a two-vehicle wreck in Franklin Township, reports Richland Source.

The accident took place at the intersection of Bowman Street Road and Amoy West Road, northwest of Mansfield, at around 3:40 p.m.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the victim was operating a 1986 Pontiac Fiero eastbound on Amoy West Road when he failed to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign. Moments after the Pontiac entered the intersection, it was struck by a 2021 Jeep Wrangler being driven southeast on Bowman Street Road by an 18-year-old fellow Mansfield resident. The impact of the crash sent the Pontiac running off the right side of the roadway.

The driver of the Pontiac was pronounced deceased at the scene, confirmed officials.

Multiple area agencies, including the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, crews with Franklin Township Fire & EMS and Weller Township Fire & EMS, as well as Terry’s Towing, all assisted at the scene.

An investigation remains ongoing.
