DELAWARE COUNTY, OH – One person lost their life due to a collision Sunday night, January 12, on Interstate 71 near Sunbury, according to NBC4i.

Ohio State Highway Patrol officials say the incident occurred on the southbound highway at U.S. Route 36/State Route 37, near the Tanger Outlets. It was first reported by NBC4i shortly after 6:00 p.m., when all lanes had reopened to traffic.

The circumstances behind the wreck remain under investigation, but one northbound driver appeared to lose control of their vehicle, which entered the southbound lanes and collided with another car.

One person succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Four other people were rushed to an area hospital. While the severity of their injuries remains unclear, the OSHP said all patients are expected to survive.

A section of southbound I-71 was closed for the duration of the emergency response.
