DELAWARE COUNTY, OH – An out-of-control semi-truck jackknifed near the scene of another crash Thursday morning near Sunbury, leaving a Delaware County Sheriff deputy seriously injured, reports NBC4i.
The accident occurred on the southbound lanes of Interstate 71 near the exit ramp to U.S. Route 36 and State Route 37.
Officials say the Ohio State Highway Patrol were investigating a separate major injury collision when a woman driving a 2017 Freightliner Cascadia lost control of the truck, causing it to jackknife off the highway’s west side.
One of the two DCSO deputies who were standing near a disabled 2009 Toyota on the highway’s right berm was hit, along with the car.
First responders rushed the struck deputy to a local hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
While the truck driver was not reported hurt, officials indicated that one other person may have been left trapped in the other vehicle. Our news team will update this blog in the event that more information is confirmed.
No charges have been announced as of this writing.
