COLUMBUS, OH – One person has died and two others are left injured after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday night in northeast Columbus, according to ABC 6.
The fatal incident unfolded on the southbound lanes of Interstate 270, just south of East Broad Street, in the city’s Greenbriar Farm area. Columbus Police were dispatched to the scene just before 10:00 p.m.
A preliminary investigation found that three men were outside of a parked vehicle, along the berm of the roadway, for reasons still unclear. At one point, the male pedestrians were struck by a vehicle described as a beige Chevrolet Malibu of a model released between 2008 and 2012.
Investigators said the driver fled the scene following the impact, and no description of the suspect was immediately available.
First responders rushed all three victims to Mount Carmel Hospital, where one of the patients, a 54-year-old man, succumbed to his injuries. The other two patients were listed in stable condition.
An investigation and a search for the fleeing suspect remain ongoing. The public was advised that the Malibu described above should have damage to its front-end.
