PIKE COUNTY, OH – A 52-year-old Columbus resident died late Tuesday following a two-vehicle wreck on State Route 220 near Waverly, according to Scioto Valley Guardian.
The fatal collision unfolded near the intersection with Progress Drive, prompting a response from the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol just before 11:00 p.m.
Officials learned that the Columbus man was operating a 2005 Nissan Altima northbound on the highway when, for reasons still being investigated, he drove off the roadway, losing control of the vehicle. The Altima continued into the southbound lane, where it hit a 2007 Ford Taurus.
First responders pronounced the driver of the Altima deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Taurus, a 53-year-old woman from Beaver, was rushed to Adena-Pike Medical Center and then taken to Grant Hospital. No information regarding her condition has been released at this time.
An investigation into the cause of the accident remains open and ongoing. No charges or citations have been reported.
