STARK COUNTY, OH – A driver was airlifted to a hospital Tuesday morning after a head-on collision in Jackson Township involving a semi-truck, according to WFIN.
The accident happened on a stretch of State Route 15 near milepost 18, at about 7:30 a.m.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. a 41-year-old man from Galion was driving a 2003 Ford Focus westbound in the left westbound lane. At one point, the Ford veered off the left side of the roadway, prompting the Galion man to overcorrect. The Ford proceeded to swerve into the right westbound lane. The Galion man then overcorrected to the left, sending the vehicle off the left side of the roadway, past the median. Officials said the Ford collided head-on with a 2022 Freightliner driven by a 35-year-old Columbus man.
The Galion man, who was found to have not been wearing a seatbelt at the time, was ejected from the Ford. He was rushed by airlift to St. Vincent Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
No injuries to the Columbus man were reported.
An investigation remains underway, but the OSHP said impairment is not a suspected factor in the crash.
