PICKAWAY COUNTY, OH – A 52-year-old man from Chillicothe lost his life Sunday, August 4, due to a pair of collisions on U.S. Route 23 near Circleville, reports Scioto Valley Guardian.
The fatal wreck occurred on the northbound lanes of US-23 (Corridor C) near Island Road at about 5:16 a.m.
According to Pickaway County officials, a 1998 Chevrolet truck with a trailer was traveling northbound on the highway when it slowed down in anticipation of a left turn. Preliminary details indicate the trailer was still partially in the roadway when it was rear-ended by a 2022 Nissan driven by the 52-year-old man.
Following the initial crash, the Nissan driver got out of the vehicle but was then hit by a 2011 Ford Escape driven by a Newark, Ohio resident.
Shortly before 5:30 a.m., first responders pronounced the Nissan driver deceased at the scene.
Circleville EMS crews transported the driver of the Chevrolet truck, also of Chillicothe, to Ohio Health Berger Hospital. One of their passengers was taken by Harrison Township EMS to Mt. Carmel Grove City.
The driver of the Ford Escape was released from the scene after receiving treatment.
