COLUMBUS, OH – A 56-year-old driver lost their life due to a car-splitting crash early Wednesday, July 3, in west Columbus, according to NBC4i.
The fatal incident occurred at the intersection of East Main Street and Wilson Avenue, in the city’s Franklin Park neighborhood.
Columbus Police said the male victim was driving a 2013 Honda Accord westbound on East Main Street. At one point, the driver appeared to lost control of the vehicle, causing the car to collide with multiple poles before it came to rest.
Officials noted that the vehicle was severely damaged, having been “sheared in half.” The impact of the crash could be observed from the front and rear of the car, which had its back tires dislodged and was left with its front bumper missing.
First responders pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
Investigators had a span of East Main Street blocked in both directions until about 6:45 a.m.
At this time, no other vehicles or occupants appear to have been involved, but an investigation remains ongoing.
