COLUMBUS, OH – Authorities responded to a hit-and-run collision early Wednesday in southeast Columbus that claimed the life of a 38-year-old woman, according to ABC 6 On Your Side.
The fatal incident unfolded on westbound Interstate 70 near Exit 110 to Brice Road. Columbus Police arrived on the scene shortly after 3:00 a.m.
Preliminary details indicate that the victim was walking in the travel lanes of westbound I-70 just before she was hit by a vehicle whose driver failed to stop.
Moments after the pedestrian was knocked to the ground, where she was lying, she was hit by another vehicle. While the second driver remained at the scene and alerted authorities, the victim succumbed to her injuries.
A section of I-70 was shut down following the incident. By about 7:15 a.m. that same morning, all travel lanes were reopened following an investigation by the Accident Investigative Unit.
