Man, 32, Dies Following Collision on I-270 in Hilliard

HILLIARD, OH – Authorities responded to a two-vehicle wreck early last Friday, February 14, in Hilliard that claimed the life of a 32-year-old Columbus City School teacher, reports NBC4i.

The fatal accident unfolded on the southbound side of Interstate 270 that runs between Hayden Run Road and Davidson Road. It prompted a response from Hilliard Division of Police officers at around 1:47 p.m.

According to a preliminary investigation, the man was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze when, for reasons still unclear, the sedan hit a 2015 Honda CRV. The impact caused the SUV to collide with a wall and overturn. Meanwhile, the sedan ran off the roadway, hit a tree, and then came to a stop.

While the driver of the SUV was transported to a local hospital for injuries considered non-life-threatening, the driver of the sedan was pronounced deceased at the scene. Officials have since identified the decedent as a physical education teacher at both Winterset and Lincoln Park Elementary schools.

Following the incident, a section of southbound I-270 was shut down for about six hours.
