EMS Crews Called to Multi-Vehicle Wreck on I-71 Near Downtown Columbus

COLUMBUS, OH – At least one person was injured due to a collision Wednesday morning, February 5, on Interstate 71 just south of downtown Columbus, according to Johnny Hill, local traffic news announcer with WTVN 610.

The incident occurred on the northbound lanes north of Greenlawn Avenue, in the city’s South Franklinton area. It was first reported at about 7:25 a.m.

Officials have not specified what led up to the crash, but multiple vehicles were involved, and one person was confirmed hurt.

Motorists were asked to pass the scene using the right lane, as all left lanes were blocked. Officials recommended U.S. Route 62 and westbound Interstate 270 to eastbound Interstate 70 as alternate routes.

By 8:53 a.m., about 1.5 hours later, crews had cleared the scene from the roadway and all travel lanes were announced reopened to traffic.

This blog will be updated to reflect any information released about the involved parties in the coming days.
